We started Enevate because the most expensive problems we kept meeting were nobody’s job.
A hard school.
Enevate was founded by engineers who spent years building airborne wind energy systems: machines that fly a wing on a rope to generate power. They combine high-power electronics, real-time control, load-bearing textiles and structures. A mistake in any one of those shows up as a failure in all the others, usually at altitude, usually in weather.
That is an unusually broad problem to have to solve, and solving it repeatedly taught us something that turns out to generalise well beyond wind: the difficulty in a physical product is rarely inside a discipline. It is at the boundary. Between the load case and the layout. Between the control loop and the compliance of the thing it is controlling. Between what the fabric can take and what the hardware asks of it.
So we built a company organised around the boundaries rather than the departments. That is the whole idea, and everything else about how we work follows from it.
